A community mod at Nexus mods not only tweaks the graphics and gameplay, but completely removes the need for junction boxes and clearing boring missions to progress. Wow I bought mafia 3 a week before the remakes were leaked and was super bummed out. It completely destroys the pacing and the urgency and makes one of the grittiest games ever written and acted feel genuinely boring for a lot of the time.īut I still love it, and still get urges to fire it up, just to cruise along in the neon lit night belting out Fortunate Son whilst imagining what could have been if you could just blast through the game with all the shite removed. When I played it at launch I was able to look past the shortfalls because I was so drawn in to the world, but with hindsight and a second attempt at playing the game in 2020 I realised just how much the Ubi padding affects the game. The game feels like it was designed as a linear open world like Mafia 2, but at some point was padded out by pointless repetitive missions and everything was locked out by stupid junction boxes that could only be accessed with stupid collectibles. The game should be widely considered an all time classic imo, but it isn't for one stupid single reason. Driving around the bayou listening to the Stones, CCR, Hendrix is gaming heaven. New Bordeaux (Orleans) is a wonderful setting dripping in atmosphere and history and graphically it holds up well even in 2023.ĭid I mention the soundtrack? Holy fuck the soundtrack.
