They’re not entirely stand-alone, even though they could be. In that sense, it’s more like three novellas but with a twist. Three Novellas with a TwistĮven though Let it Snow was published as a single book, it contains three stories told by each of the three authors. Thanks to three of today’s bestselling teen authors-John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle-the magic of the holidays shines on these hilarious and charming interconnected tales of love, romance, and breathtaking kisses. Or that the way back to true love begins with a painfully early morning shift at Starbucks. And no one would think that a trip to the Waffle House through four feet of snow would lead to love with an old friend. After all, a cold and wet hike from a stranded train through the middle of nowhere would not normally end with a delicious kiss from a charming stranger. A Christmas Eve snowstorm transforms one small town into a romantic haven, the kind you see only in movies. Sparkling white snowdrifts, beautiful presents wrapped in ribbons, and multicolored lights glittering in the night through the falling snow.
Let It Snow is a perfect read around this time of the year - you don’t get just one feel good love story, but three of them. It’s witty (at times hilarious - especially so in John Green’s story) and all three of the stories ended with me having a fuzzy feeling inside due to the romantic endings and the Christmasness (as of now, that is a word).
All three of the authors have a way of writing that makes you want to turn page after page. I read it in about a week, but if I’d had the time I’d have finished it within two days. The characters from one story feature (in minor roles) in the other stories, too, and in the last one everyone comes together in the local Starbucks and it ends all merry and happy and great. The fun thing about these stories is that they are not three stand alone stories, but they are all intertwined. It was a very nice and refreshing change from the Modernist novels I’ve been reading for the past few weeks. I finished this book the day after Christmas and I thoroughly enjoyed it. John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle have combined their efforts in Let It Snow, each creating three short stories - three “holiday romances”, as it reads on the cover. My logic might be somewhat flawed, but I don’t care! I know that, technically, Christmas is over and that that makes me a little late to the party with this review, but it’s still the holiday season, right? We’ve still got New Year’s to come! My Christmas tree is still standing, so that means it’s still Christmas. Over the next three days one girl takes a risky shortcut with an adorable stranger, three friends set out to win a race to Waffle House (and the hash brown spoils), and the fate of a teacup pig falls into the hands of a lovesick barista. One brave soul ventures out into the storm from her stranded train and sets off a chain of events that will change quite a few lives. An ill-timed storm on Christmas Eve buries the residents of Gracetown under multiple feet of snow and causes quite a bit of chaos.
